In a telephone conversation with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Tuesday, Yaakob described the bilateral relations as a source of pride for the government and nation of Malaysia and said, “As an important and influential country, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been a major supporter for the Islamic community.”

Expressing his satisfaction with the development of relations between the two countries, the premier added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran is a very important business partner for Malaysia in Asia, and we are very happy that the trade relations between the two countries have grown significantly in the past year.”

He also condemned the policy of cruel sanctions against Iran, stating that the current political determination will ensure the development of Iran-Malaysia relations in various fields.

For his part, Raisi expressed satisfaction with the very good relations established between Iranian and Malaysian companies, saying, “There are various issues for the development of bilateral cooperation, and I hope we will witness their realization through interaction and efforts of the authorities of the two countries.”

Congratulating the Malaysian prime minister and people on the National Day of Malaysia, Raisi said, “Malaysia has a significant position in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and there are various capacities to develop cooperation between the two friendly countries.”

Hoping for the development of political, economic and cultural relations for the benefit of the two nations through cooperation and empathy, the president stated, “Various issues for the development of cooperation in the fields of economics, science, research, modern technologies and finalizing trade agreements are on the agenda.”

“The volume of commercial relations between Iran and Malaysia is not proportional to the existing capacities and there is a lot of room for expansion,” Raisi added, according to his official website.
